Event Leadership for the New World: Part two, chapter six

Goals for the chapter:
Identify leadership characteristics in an event manager and in yourself
Make critical decisions and act decisively
Solve problems
Overcome communication challenges
Use five critical factors to improve your leadership ability

Leadership styles:
Democratic style- excellent for facilitating discussions and building concensus
Autocratic style- should be used sparingly; effectively only when time is of the essence (see: fire evacuations, etc.)
Laissez-faire style- least used in event management because it requires a team with exactly equal skill; in theory, this is possible, but in reality it is impossible; would allow event manager to sit back and let the group guide itself.

Event leadership characteristics:
1. Integrity
2. Confidence
3. Persistence
4. Problem solving
5. Communication skills
6. Vision
