Event Leadership for the New World: Part three, chapter eight
Posted in Uncategorized on October 16, 2013 by fullcircleproductionsON-SITE MANAGEMENT
Goals for the chapter:
Develop and implement event contingency plans
Monitor each element of an event during event operations
Establish and manage efficient registration operations
Coordinate industry and professional speakers
Identify and utilize appropriate amenities
Indentify, create, and post informative signs
This was another chapter that I just skimmed. Having worked intimately with each event over the summer, I feel as though my experience in on-site management seems to have established effectiveness in completing these goals rather than me reading how to be effective in the text.

Goals for the chapter:
Develop and implement the design for your event
Develop appropriate resources
Coordinate catering operations
Use trends in event catering
Coordinate technical resources, including lighting, sound, and special effects
Conduct and analyze the site inspection
Develop and construct the production schedule
Anticipate and resolve operational conflicts
I just skimmed this chapter. Over the summer, I had an internship with Girl Scouts. This was exactly what I did the whole time- met with caterers and props donors and made sure that everything matched and fit and ran smoothly for three of their annual events.
Event Leadership for the New World: Part two, chapter six
Posted in Uncategorized on October 11, 2013 by fullcircleproductionsGoals for the chapter:
Identify leadership characteristics in an event manager and in yourself
Make critical decisions and act decisively
Solve problems
Overcome communication challenges
Use five critical factors to improve your leadership ability
Leadership styles:
Democratic style- excellent for facilitating discussions and building concensus
Autocratic style- should be used sparingly; effectively only when time is of the essence (see: fire evacuations, etc.)
Laissez-faire style- least used in event management because it requires a team with exactly equal skill; in theory, this is possible, but in reality it is impossible; would allow event manager to sit back and let the group guide itself.
Event leadership characteristics:
1. Integrity
2. Confidence
3. Persistence
4. Problem solving
5. Communication skills
6. Vision
